Curious about the life cycle of an ant? With this educational play set, children learn it easily and playfully. The figures show how this insect goes through the four stages from egg to adult ant. This set contains the little white eggs where ants get their start. Next come the larvae, which molt several times before entering a period of rest and growth as pupae. The adult ant that emerges is darker in color, but will not grow larger due to its exoskeleton.
Characteristics: Ants live in large colonies led by a queen whose only job is to lay eggs. Worker ants do the heavy lifting, foraging for food and expanding the colony, while drones only exist to mate with the queen.
Size and Color: The early stages of an ant's life cycle are not very colorful, as most of their energy is spent eating. But adult ants have different colors depending on the species.
The figures in this set are ideal to use as Montessori toys for lessons on biological processes and life cycles.
