Tiny black, white and yellow striped caterpillars emerge from almost invisible eggs. They immediately begin to feed on the surrounding milkweed leaves, storing food for the upcoming transition. After two weeks they form an emerald green pupa, from which a beautiful monarch butterfly emerges after another two weeks. Thanks to its bright orange and black color, the monarch is one of the most famous butterfly species.
