How does Santa know who has been good? Scout elves fly to the North Pole every night for the weeks before Christmas to report to Santa. The next morning, they return to the family and hide in a different place in the house. Can the Elf on the Shelf stay at the family home all year? After the holidays, the scout elves must return to the North Pole to prepare Christmas for the following year already. Once back at the North Pole, they share their stories with the other elves, engage in flight training and help Santa and his wife. On a special occasion, Santa gives the elves permission to return to the family home for a short time throughout the year. According to tradition, a scout elf loses its magic when touched by human hands. If they are safely inside the gift box, however, they can simply be moved. Once the elf has been adopted and given a name , it should not be touched.
