After molting several times, the caterpillar creates a cocoon, from which the adult moon moth emerges, ready to dry its wings and flap off into the night.

Characteristics: One of the most beautiful and easily recognizable butterflies, the tails on the underside of its wings allow the moon moth to confuse bats and escape predators.

Size and Color: The moon moth caterpillar shows off its camouflage, confusing predators by blending in with its leafy home. The adult butterfly is approximately 8 cm from wing tip to wing tip.
